Basil

I was determined to grow our basil from seed this year, something I’ve never tried to do. I planted the seeds and babied them in our little mini greenhouse. The germination rate wasn’t great, but the seeds that did sprout thrived.

Moving each basil plant from the greenhouse to its permanent home in our new raised bed made me really proud. Making fresh pesto all summer was even better. I finally figured out how to make a really good pesto this year, and we enjoyed every bite.

I dried the remaining basil and bottled it to give to you. I hope it flavors your favorite sauces and Mediterranean recipes to give you a little taste of summer.
