Black raspberry is one of my two favorite jellies. I've loved it since Mom made it with fruit from the same vines I'm now picking at the front of the house.

I learned last year that our black raspberry vines originally grew at the side of a stream behind the place where my dad used to work. Due to some construction in the area, the vines were dug up and about to be heaped into a dumpster and hauled away. Dad rescued them and planted them on bank at the front of our house. I'll always be grateful he did that because the jelly we get from those old vines is outstanding.

I picked most of our black raspberries at 6 in the morning this past July in order to beat the heat. It was so worth it.
